Where Peosta's Floors Do Their Work
Epoxy flooring in Peosta starts with the industrial park. It is the main part of the town's economy and keeps growing, with manufacturing, warehousing and shipping companies. Employers there include Berry Plastics, First Gear, Mi-T-M, Bodine Electric and Colony Brands. Northeast Iowa Community College has its largest campus here too. That puts a lot of working concrete in a town of about 1,900 people.
What a working floor needs
Industrial and warehouse slabs fail in their own ways. Forklift wheels chip joint edges. Pallet jacks scuff the surface. Oils, coolants and cleaners soak into bare concrete and leave it slick. Dust comes up off the slab and gets into product and equipment. A good commercial coating handles all of that.
- Thicker build: a heavier epoxy system that takes impact and abrasion
- Chemical-resistant topcoat: chosen for the fluids used in your space
- Joint and crack repair: broken edges rebuilt so wheels roll smoothly
- Texture where people walk: grit in aisles, at doors and near wash areas
- Line striping and color zones: for walkways, staging areas and equipment lanes
Keeping the building running
Most businesses cannot close for a week while a floor cures. We plan commercial jobs in sections, so one area is coated while the rest keeps working. Polyaspartic topcoats can shorten the time each section is out of service. We will walk the space with you, look at traffic flow and set a schedule in writing before work starts.
Training shops and maintenance bays
NICC's Peosta campus runs large welding, nursing, business and computer programs. Welding shops, maintenance rooms and lab spaces take sparks, dropped tools and spills every day. For those rooms we look at heat exposure, cleaning chemicals and how much grit the floor needs. Some areas are better left as sealed or ground concrete. We will say so if that is the right call.
Homes that grew with the park
Peosta stayed tiny for most of its history. It had 128 residents in 1990. When the industrial park took off in the 1990s, the town grew fast, reaching 1,908 people by 2020. Housing went from 223 units in 2000 to 656 in 2020. So most homes here are fairly new, and many have attached garages. U.S. 20 runs four lanes along the south edge of town, and winter highway salt rides home on every commute. For these garages we usually recommend a full flake epoxy floor with a durable topcoat. It hides road film and gives grip when the floor is wet.
Concrete repair before the coating
Industrial floors often carry damage that has to be fixed first. Saw-cut joints break down at the edges under hard wheels. Slabs settle near dock doors. Old anchor holes from moved racking and machines leave pits across the floor. We rebuild joint edges with a semi-rigid filler or repair mortar, patch pits and holes, and grind high spots flat. Then the coating goes on a smooth, continuous surface. Skipping this step is why many plant floors start chipping at the joints within a year.
Owner-operator shops
Peosta also has its share of contractors, small fabricators and owners with a large detached shop. Those floors fall between residential and commercial. We size the system to the work: a heavier build for equipment and trailers, a lighter one for a hobby shop or storage building.
Can you coat a floor that already has an old industrial coating?
Yes, after testing it. If the old coating is well bonded, we may be able to grind it and build over it. If it is peeling or chipping, we grind it off down to bare concrete. We tell you which one your floor needs in the written quote.

Peosta Questions
Can you coat our warehouse floor without shutting down?
In most cases, yes. We split the floor into sections and coat one while the rest stays in use. We set the order and timing with you in writing before we start.
What coating works for a shop with forklifts?
A thicker epoxy system over a ground, repaired slab, with a topcoat matched to the fluids in your space. Joint edges get rebuilt first, since that is where forklift damage starts.
Do you also do garage floors in Peosta's neighborhoods?
Yes. Many homes here are newer with attached garages. We grind, repair small cracks and install flake or polyaspartic systems that stand up to U.S. 20 road salt.
